WFFM MEMBERS

The World Federation of Friends of Museums consists of:

• Active Members
• Associate Members
• Honorary Members
• Benefactor Members
• Donor Members
• Individual Members




Active Members
Active Members of WFFM are national federations or groups of associations of Friends of museums, duly constituted according to the regulations in each country and having legal personality. They are represented on the WFFM Council by their Presidents or delegates. There is only one national federation for each member country of the World Federation.
National federations act as liaison between their member societies and organise one or more annual meetings (conferences, conventions, educational seminars) on a national or regional level.


Associate Members
Associate Members of WFFM are individual associations of Friends of museums or specific groups of associations, duly constituted according to the regulations in each country and having legal personality.
Either they are not grouped in a national federation or they are grouped in a national federation in a country where a WFFM Active Member already exists.
Associate Members are represented on the WFFM Council through representative delegates. Associate Members have their own special projects and spheres of interest.

Honorary Members
Honorary Members shall be individuals or corporate members who have rendered exceptional services to the cause of WFFM or to that of the museums. Their membership is granted on an honorific basis by decision of the Council and is appointed for life. Former WFFM Presidents become honorary members when they retire. Honorary Members are entitled to attend the WFFM General Assembly’s meetings.


Benefactor Members
Benefactor Members are individual persons or corporate members that support WFFM and its international purposes. They provide the WFFM with considerable financial support. They are entitled to attend the WFFM General Assembly’s meetings and the special cultural programs arranged by the association hosting the event.

Donor Members
Donors Members are individual persons or corporate members that support WFFM and its international purposes. They are entitled to attend the WFFM General Assembly’s meetings and the special cultural programs arranged by the association hosting the event.


Individual Members
Individual Members are individual persons who wish to support WFFM’s goals and international objectives or who are deemed to be worthy of membership of WFFM. They are entitled to attend the WFFM General Assembly’s meetings and the special cultural programs arranged by the association hosting the event.

Brazilian Federation of Friends of Museums (FEAMBRA)
Established in 1989, is an independent and nonprofit organisation. Among its targets, the most relevant is to help more than 2.000 museums throughout Brazil to establish their associations of friends and preserve the Brazilian historic heritage.

The organisation was established in 1970, initially as the Ganesha Volunteers under the patronage of the Ganesha Society. Amics dels Museus de Catalunya – Barcelona (AMC)
Founded in 1933, it is a cultural association that gathers nearly 1,100 individual members, supporters of art and culture. The association is among the founders of WFFM.

National Museum Volunteers – Bangkok (NMV)
Established in 1969, the group represents 355 members, 22 of whom live
overseas, out of Thailand. The NMV originated to train expats as volunteer tour guides (English language) at the National Museum. Since its inception, the NMV has grown in membership and scope of activities, which now include excursions, study groups, and lectures, as well as guiding programs in English, French, Germanand Japanese languages.

Friends of the American Wing of The Baltimore Museum of Art – Baltimore (FOAW)
The FOAW was founded in 1970. There are currently 290 members of the Friends of the American Wing and an additional 102 members of the affiliated group, the Young Friends of the American Wing.
As the largest Friends group at The Baltimore Museum of Art, the FOAW supports the preservation, growth, and enrichment of the BMA’s distinguished collection of decorative arts and American painting and sculpture with proceeds from annual dues and fundraising activities.

Museum Trustee Association – Washington, D.C. (MTA)
The association was formed in 1971 as a committee of the American Association of Museums, then established independently in 1986 as separate nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing ongoing board education programs, services and resources for the special needs of museum trustees. It is a network of over 200 museums across the United States and Canada with more than 200 members which include trustees, museum staff, and others interested in museum governance.
