WFFM PURPOSES
The aim of the World Federation of Friends of Museums is to promote and spread the idea of Friends of museums worldwide. The enrichment of museums and the safeguard of our cultural heritage are central to all the activities carried out by the Federation.
WFFM is an international organisation that through its 18 national federations, 27 associated members in 21 countries, represents two million individual Friends of museums worldwide.
WFFM considers that it is through the open and active participation of the community that museums will fully accomplish their mission.
WFFM's purposes and activities focus on the following objectives:
To unite the growing number of Friends of museums in different countries so as to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences in the conservation of cultural heritage.
To promote the establishment and development of national federations and associations of Friends of museums around the world, and support their initiatives towards the enrichment of museums.
To foster the highest ethical standards amongst Friends and volunteers of museums using the precepts of the WFFM Code of Ethics.
To communicate the idea and vision of Friends of museums worldwide.
To encourage ties between museum professionals and volunteers, young people and the general public.
To officially represent the Friends of museums in developing cultural cooperation with similar international organisations, particularly with ICOM (The International Council of Museums) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).
To generate public and government awareness of museums worldwide.
